The Foundation for Canadian Comedy (CANCOM) is launching a pilot funding campaign for Canadian comedy artists. This pilot campaign is presented, in part, by the onVIVA Live Video Network. www.onviva.live

Comedy Content Creator Grants will be given to independent Canadian comedians to make video or audio content, or support a larger project they are independently developing.

Types of content that are eligible for this specific pilot program:

(includes video and audio-only projects)

  • Performance for an in-person audience that’s recorded for digital broadcast at a later date. (e.g. A show at a comedy club/theatre for a live audience that you record and upload to your social media channels).

  • Performance for an in-person audience that’s live streamed online for a digital audience, plus, recorded for rebroadcast at a later date. (e.g. An improv show at a theatre venue that you live stream and post again later on your social media channels).

  • Performance in-studio, or in-the-field that’s recorded and digitally broadcast at a later date. (e.g. A sketch show, or Web Series that you record in a studio or on location, edit, and upload to your social media channels).

  • Performance in-studio, or in-the-field that’s livestreamed online for a digital audience, plus, recorded for rebroadcast at a later date. (e.g. A show that’s livestreamed for a digital audience only, and posted for rebroadcast or on-demand again later on your social media channels).

Applications will be open for submissions soon. In advance, CANCOM needs comedians to help assess grant applications.

If you are a comedian and prepared to dedicate approximately 20 hours over a six-week period starting in October 2021, please respond by filling out the form below. Selected Peer Assessors will be paid an honorarium of $400. Please include your CV and respond to the questions on the LINK below.

NOTE: The content created by grant recipients will be 100% owned by the comedy artists. The premiere broadcast of any content created with support from the grant, however, will be posted on the comedy artists onVIVA.live profile. There are no fees for setting up this onVIVA.live profile or broadcasting the content, and after a period of 90 days, the comedy artist can post their content anywhere else.

CANCOM has established the first-ever national funding streams for Canadian comedy artists.  Canadian comedians have never been able to apply for funding at a national level as comedians.

In order to evaluate the foundation’s infrastructure, CANCOM is launching this pilot campaign that will model how funding will be streamed in the future to sketch, improv and stand-up comedians (individuals and troupes).
